In March 2019, Dr. Ryan embarked on a three-year Diplomate Program for the Craniocervical Junction Procedures. The program is run through the International Chiropractic Association. Dr. Ryan is excited to improve his skills, both clinically and personally so he can better serve his patients.
Once finished, he’ll be the only doctor in North Georgia with the DCCJP credential and one of only three chiropractors in the state of Georgia!
A Rigorous Program
The Diplomate program is the highest formal level of education dedicated to the upper neck— or the upper cervical region. It involves over 300 hours of classroom instruction that go into high level details regarding musculature and nerves within the neck, cervical biomechanics, glymphatic and venous systems of the brain, and clinical implications for each one of these systems.
“These neurological structures and systems are not very well understood in the medical community and it’s great to be spearheading these topics to rise the tide of all specialist who focus on the upper neck, brain and brainstem,” said Dr. Ryan.
The first year of the program is science-focused with courses in anatomy, physiology and neurology. In the second year, Dr. Ryan will be reviewing and assessing the efficacy of other upper cervical techniques, including Blair, NUCCA, Knee Chest, EPIC and of course, Orthospinology.
“It will be great to have an open forum discussion on how other techniques are correcting misalignments in the upper cervical spine. We need to get better at predicting which patients will respond to specific techniques and adjustments. This forum will really get the ball moving in that direction.”
Benefits of Upper Cervical Chiropractic
One of the greatest benefits of upper cervical chiropractic is that we can correct misalignments to the spine with very gentle and precise methods that do not require any twisting, popping or cracking. Even patients with spinal surgeries and fusions are able to be helped with our specific and gentle methods.
“Manipulating the spine with a surgical fusion is contraindicated and should not be performed. With our gentle instrument assisted corrections, we minimize this risk and see great results with our patients.”
